“Laws of nature are laws of Spirit”
This week’s Bible Lesson, “Spirit,” includes in section 3 the following statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “Laws of nature are laws of Spirit” (p. 183:19).
Citing this passage, Allison W. Phinney, Jr. relates in his Sentinel article “To pray … and mean it!” (February 6, 1989) the following:
“It is encouraging to see when we pray that we are not pleading for God to change or to intervene against whatever material "law" of bodily disease or injury is causing us pain and difficulty. The discovery Christian Science has made and offers to anyone who is in earnest is that God's laws are not material and designed in such a way that sooner or later they cause injury, destruction, and death to man. His laws are spiritual, causing only good, very much in accord with His nature as divine Principle, Love” [. . .].”
“Spirit's laws actually sustain life, health, and fulfillment, as we can gather from thinking about Christ Jesus' ministry. In prayer we are turning to the actual law of God, or the Science of being, that underlay the healing works of original Christianity. This gives new hope and wings to prayer now—enabling us to pray and to mean it.”
“I will come before the Lord
In the softness of the evening
When nature bathes in purple light;
I give thanks for Spirit’s blessings.
You are my evening song.”
